Ervin Kuhlmann Ervin Johannes Christoff Kuhlmann, 84, of Peetz, died Feb. 13, 2011, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Bishop David Nielsen officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery with military rites.
Ervin was born July 18, 1926, in Elk Creek, Neb., to Johann Heinrich Friedrich and Emilie Caroline (Sodmann) Kuhlmann. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from September 1950 to November 1952, receiving the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal and four Bronze Service Stars.
On April 12, 1972, he married Maneta Hambleton in Rapid City, S.D.
He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He loved raising chickens for the past 15 years. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories. He also delighted in teasing his grandchildren. Spending time outside with his animals was a joy.
Ervin is survived by his wife, Maneta Kuhlmann of Peetz; son, Gene Fuehrer and wife Allison of Parker; daughters, VJ Lammons of Rexburg, Idaho, Nancy Harrison of St. George, Utah, Peggy Merrill and husband Terry of Salt Lake City, Utah, Cindi Indermill and husband Kirk of Longmont; brother, Reinhard Kuhlmann of Table Rock, Neb.; sisters, Jean Kuhlmann of Humboldt, Neb., Ida Kuhlmann of Auburn, Neb., Rosina Kuhlmann of Breckenridge, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
