Elsie Stone, 91, of Grand Junction, died Oct. 13, 2009, in Grand Junction. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at Chaney-Reager, with Pastor David Loeschke officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Stone was born Sept. 27, 1918, to Henry and Amelia (Maser) Reitz in Iliff. She attended Dillon School to the seventh grade and graduated from Iliff High School in 1936. She helped her parents on the farm.
In 1940, she married William Roth. They began their married life working on a farm. He later worked with Logan County Road and Bridge, and died in an accident on April 24, 1953.
She spent 11 years in resale.
She married Raymond Stone March 3, 1963. They lived in Spokane, Wash., Vernal, Utah, and Longmont. The Stones retired to Battlement Mesa.
Mrs. Stone was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Eric Roth and wife Kristina, and Brent Roth, all of Denver; daughter-in-law, Katherine Roth of Denver; stepsons, Craig Stone and wife Jean of North Adams, Mass., Dale Stone and wife Eloise of Tifton, Ga., and Dean Stone of Williamsburg, Va.; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by husbands, William Roth and Raymond Stone; infant daughter, Anita Joyce; son, Larry Gordon Roth; sisters, Rosa Reitz and Flora Herzog; brothers, Henry Reitz Jr. and George Reitz.
