Elmer Meier, 78, of Sterling and formerly of Ovid, died Nov. 2, 2007, in Sterling.
Vigil service and recitation of the Rosary will be on 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow officiating. Inurnment will be 3 p.m. at Ovid Cemetery.
Mr. Meier was born May 23, 1929, in Ovid to Jacob and Catherine (Bopp) Meier. He graduated from high school in 1947 in Ovid. He was a farmer and cattleman.
On Aug. 11, 1954, he married Donna Bauer in Julesburg. They lived in Ovid until 2003, when he retired and they moved to Sterling. He was a lifelong farmer and beef producer near Ovid.
He enjoyed being with his family and grandkids. He also enjoyed the many bus trips they took across the western states. Mr. Meier often went to his children's farms, where he always gave his advice. He enjoyed attending his grandkids' sports events and 4-H and school activities.
Mr. Meier is survived by his wife, Donna Meier of Sterling; daughter, Kathi Jenik and husband Randy of Sedgwick; sons, Mark Meier of Crook, and Daniel Meier and wife Suzanne of Crook; brother, Edward Meier and wife Rosemary of Ovid; sister, Margaret Stieb and husband Basil of Iliff; sister-in-law, Bonnie Bauer of Broadwater, Neb.; grandchildren, Ryder Jenik, Hannah Walker and husband Zack, Wesley Meier and Whitney Meier; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Gray; and brothers, Joseph Meier and Raymond Meier, and his parents Jacob and Catherine Meier.
