Elias "Eli" H. Torres, 57, died on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, in Sterling. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Kloberdanz officiating.
Mr. Torres was born Aug. 17, 1951, in Juarez, Mexico, to Abel and Anastasia (Herrera) Torres. He went to school in Juarez and later became a resident of the United States. He became a permanent resident in 1985.
He was employed at Excel Beef Plant until it closed. He then worked at R&R Packaging until he became disabled.
On Dec. 3, 1972, he married Dina Ortiz in Greeley. They were married for 36 years.
He was a member of Turning Point Church. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, they were his world. He was known for his great Mexican food and his big heart to share what he had.
Mr. Torres is survived by his wife, Dina; son, Abel Torres and wife Brandi; daughters, Elisa Gutierrez and husband Mat and Andrea Gutierrez and husband Domonic; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel and Anastasia Torres.
