Long time Sterling resident, Elaine Mangels, peacefully passed to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at her home in Sterling. She is survived by her daughters Joanne (Ron) Holtz of Whittier, California and Pamela (Gordon) Stumpf of Sterling.
Elaine, one of five daughters, was born to Arthur and Pearl (Hatfield) Neville in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on April 22, 1914. She was a graduate of Stow High School, Ohio. She married Fred Mangels on April 22, 1934, in Ohio and moved to Chicago, Illinois where their daughter Joanne was born. The family moved to Colorado in 1946 settling in Sterling where second daughter, Pamela, was born. Fred was employed by Commercial Bank until his passing in 1959.
Elaine was active in her church, Trinity Lutheran in Sterling, singing in the church choir for 60 years, Sunday School teacher, member of Ruth Guild, and Monday Morning Quilters. She was a retired employee of NJC. Elaine was active in Extension Homemakers, served for 30 years as officer on Council on Aging, AARP, and was a member on the Interagency Council for the Elderly.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Pearl Neville; her husband, Fred Mangels; and sisters, Flora, Ann, and Ruth. Survivors include her daughters and their families. From California: Ron and Joanne (Mangels) Holtz; Jim and Eliva Holtz; Derek and Brent Holtz; Chad and Kristen (Holtz) Nelson; Ruthe Holtz; Pete and Ronna (Holtz) Vega; Matt and Josh Vega. From Colorado: Gordon and Pamela (Mangels) Stumpf; Kris Stumpf; Kyle and Christy Stumpf; Timmi and Alli Keisel; Mark and Kay (Stumpf) Powell; Cameron, Reagan, Morgan and Nolan Powell; Kory and Adrian Stumpf; Zane and Titan Stumpf. She is also survived by her sister Jean Ricketts of Milford, Michigan; plus a number of nieces and nephews across the country.
A viewing will be held Monday, June 2, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home at 443 South 2nd in Sterling from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with family visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 3 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. James Nash officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Family may be greeted at the church during a light lunch following the graveside service. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
The family wishes to thank you all for your prayers and good wishes during this time. Elaine enjoyed her 100th birthday in April with her family and friends. She is now with her Lord in Heaven.
