Edward Schilling

Edward Schilling, 87, of Sterling, died June 5, 2008, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Chaney-Reager, with the Rev. Thomas Gosser officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
He was born July 16, 1920, to Conrad and Catherine (Kautz) Schilling in Snyder. He was raised in the Sterling and Iliff areas and attended school in Iliff.
Mr. Schilling entered the U.S. Army during World War II, serving from July 1942 until his discharge in November 1945.
He returned to the area and farmed. In the 1950s, he worked in the oil field. In 1966, he began working for Logan County as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1986.
On Jan. 19, 1947, he married Elnora Niesen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sterling. They were married 61 years.
Mr. Schilling is survived by his wife, Elnora; daughters, Marlene Noffsinger and husband Dennis of Haigler, Neb., Charlene Schilling of Sterling and Kathryn Vaughn of Iliff; brother, Leo Schilling of Greeley; sisters, Elsie Fritzler of Greeley, Lorraine Rutz of Loveland, Betty Leffler of Greeley and Lucille Winder of Windsor; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Catherine Schilling; brothers, Alex and Fred; and sisters, Leah Meisinger, Emma Bendedict, Hannan Schild, Hilda Winkler, Marie Hohn, Edna Triblehorn, Elma Schilling and Eleanor Shick.
