Edward J. Lawrenson

Edward J. Lawrenson, 83, of Sterling, passed away June 17, 2008, in Sterling. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with Rosary and vigil service to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Edward was born Feb. 19, 1925, to James and Annie (Hothersall) Lawrenson in Alliance, Neb. After graduating from St. Anthony Catholic High School in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
He served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater until he was honorably discharged in 1946.
After arriving home in Sterling, he joined his father on the railroad, working for the CB & Q.
In 1961, Edward met Doris Brachtenbach, and on June 18, 1966, they were married at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
They lived in Galesburg, Ill., for three years, where he worked for the CB & Q, then returned home to Sterling.
On Aug. 25, 1969, they were blessed with their first child, a son named Brian. They were blessed again with their second child on April 1, 1972, a daughter named Renee.
Family and faith were everything to Edward until the end. His two children were at his side at the time of his passing.
He worked for 41 years on the railroad, until his retirement in 1987. He made numerous long-lasting friendships on the railroad that will never fade.
Edward was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Sterling BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Doris Lawrenson of Sterling; son, Brian Lawrenson
of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Renee Losh and husband Chris of Strasburg; granddaughters, Logan and Rylan Losh of Strasburg; sister, Catherine Scharf of Scottsbluff, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Annie Lawrenson; brothers, John and Jimmy Lawrenson; and sisters, Rosalie Ferguson and Margaret Wilcox.
