Edith L. "Edie" Tanner, 81, of Sterling, passed away Dec. 27, 2012, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Chaney-Reager, with the Rev. Wendy Kalan officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Edie was born March 29, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Fred and Helen (Swenson) Schnittker. She attended grade school, junior high and high school in Brooklyn.
She went to work at A.B. Liell Insurance in downtown Brooklyn, working there for two and a half years. She then went to work for Moody's Investors on Wall Street, associated with NYSE on Wall Street, as executive secretary.
She met Keith Tanner of Sterling while he was stationed at the Brooklyn U.S. Navy yard. He was on the aircraft carrier Oriskney, commissioned out of Brooklyn in 1950. They married in Brooklyn on Sept. 11, 1954, and moved to Sterling.
Edie went to work for J.C. Penney, then worked for L.E. Whitlock Oil Company as secretary and accountant. She left there to give birth to her son, Scott Tanner, Dec. 8, 1955, then stayed home and gave birth to another son, Duane Tanner, on June 27, 1959. She stayed home until the boys were in school full time. She went to work at the Sterling Elks Lodge for 32 years and the Silver Dollar for eight years.
She is survived by her sons, Scott Tanner of Sterling and Duane Tanner and wife Carri of Sterling; foster son, William Boltz of Fort Collins; granddaughter, Jennifer Boltz of Denver; grandsons, Steven Jorgensen of Sterling and Joshua Boltz of Alabama; brother, Fred Schnittker; niece, Kim; and nephew, Chris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Tanner in 1994.
