Edith 'Edie' E. Clevenger
Jan. 9, 1918 - Oct. 2, 2007

Edith "Edie" E. Clevenger, 89, of Crook, met her Savior on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, with her family by her side. Edie was the beloved wife of Delbert (Swede) Clevenger of Crook. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at United Church of Crook, with the Rev. Dave Tyree officiating. Burial will be at Haxtun Cemetery.

Edie was born Jan. 9, 1918, to Charles H. Owen and Bertha (Wulf) Owen in Grant, Neb. She spent her elementary school years in Nebraska and then completd high school at Sterling High School in 1936. She and her three sisters, Ruth, Hazel and Marian, lived in a boarding house and attended high school.

On March 16, 1946, Edie married Delbert (Swede) Clevenger in Faulds Chapel at the Presbyterian Church in Sterling. Edie and Del were blessed with 61 years together. To this union were born three children, Diane and husband Ken Freeman of Iliff; Rex and wife Sheri Clevenger of Imperial, Neb., and Allen and wife Laura Clevenger of Crook.

She was a doting "Grandma Edie" to Lisa Schaefer and husband Jim, Brian Freeman and wife Maggie, Josh Freeman and wife Jessica, Kelly Clevenger and wife Christine, Tori Holm and husband Cory, Robyn Lange and husband Joe, Brady Clevenger, Justin Clevenger and Troy Clevenger. She was also blessed by 11 great-grandchildren.

Grandma Edie was happiest with family around, and she took special pleasure in playing card games and reading to her grandchildren. She was a fantastic story teller and could put any grandchild to sleep. She had a sharp sense of humor and made us all laugh.

Edie was a member of the Crook VFW Post No. 4191 Ladies Auxiliary, the Crook Historical Society and the Presbyterian Church of Crook.

Edie is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Sheldon and Hazel Sutter, both of Sterling; one brother, Philip Owen and wife Eileen of Fort Collins; brothers-in-law, Morty Clevenger and wife Wilma of Sterling, and Rich Clevenger of Crook; sister-in-law, Cleota Luelf of Fort Collins; and many nieces and nephews.
