Dorothy Lillian Lawrie, 87, of Sterling, died Oct. 14, 2009, in Sterling. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sean Cole officiating. Services will conclude at the church. A private family graveside was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

She was born July 7, 1922, to Benjamin and Lillian (Schaefer) Walling in Keyport, N.J. She received her GED.

On Aug. 22, 1944, she married Robert Lawrie in Norfolk, Va. They were married for 36 years, until his death in 1980.

Mrs. Lawrie was a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of children and loved animals.
She served in the nursery at Emmanuel Baptist Church for 15 years, and also served with the Christian Women's and LIFT luncheons.

Mrs. Lawrie is survived by her daughter, Gail Lawrie Zink of Eagle; son, Chris Lawrie of Louisville; sister, Kay Padula of Westport, Conn.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lawrie; grandson, Aaron James Zink; sisters, Norma Cassavechia and Gladys Debone; and brothers, Chester Walling, George Walling and Willard Walling.
