Dorothy was born June 5, 1929, to John F. Slama and Marke K. (Riter) Slama in a little house in Seward County, Neb. She attended school grades 1-6 in District 6 Ne., 6 and 7 in Memphis, Neb., and high school 9-12 in Ashland, Neb. Graduating in 1947, she continued her education at the University of Nebraska. After receiving her teaching degree, she returned to teach grade school at the District 6 school she had attended as a child.
On June 10, 1950, she married Donald L. Robinson in Ashland and moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where Don began his career in the lumber industry. While in Cheyenne, Dorothy gave birth to four children and stayed in Cheyenne until 1961.
Don and Dorothy moved their family to Sterling to start up Mead Lumber Co. and rented their first home in Colorado on Cortez Street. Dorothy substitute-taught at Pantal school and took over as the Charmonettes 4-H leader with six members, keeping them busy sewing and cooking. In July 1965, Don and Dorothy built a new home out on N. Seventh Avenue, where she and children could raise livestock for 4-H and Dottie could have her large flower gardens she loved so much.
She worked for Mead Lumber as a bookkeeper until retiring in 1996 so she and Don could do some traveling.
Dotti was very active and lived for 4-H. She received many awards during the years but the best of all was in 2011, being honored by the Chamrocks for being their leader for 50 years.
Dotti enjoyed making crafts, working in her flower gardens and raising her dogs and the many, many, many cats she had. Dottie was also very active in Christ United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi and Home Hustlers.
She is survived by her son, R. Douglas Robinson and wife Cathy of Sterling; daughters, Catherine L. Van Heukelem and husband Tom of Englewood, Patricia Ann Hays of Rawlens, Wyo., Nancy Jo Rider and husband Tim of Green River, Wyo.; brothers, Bob Slama of Jensen Beach, Fla., Don Slama of Lincoln, Neb.; half-sister, Irine Hill of Mary Vill, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the 4-H Foundation or 4-H Scholarship.
