Obituary

Dorothy Isabel Davis, 79, of Peetz, died Saturday, June 18, 2011, in Denver due to complications from liver failure. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23, at the Peetz United Methodist Church with Pastor Jodie Harless officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Sterling.

Dorothy was born at home in Peetz on Jan. 17, 1932, to George and Helen (Adams) Bartels. She was a graduate of Peetz High School.

She married Robert Davis on Aug. 20, 1950, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Peetz.

Dorothy was a homemaker. She was very active in local politics, particularly the Democratic Party, was named Logan County Democrat of the year with her husband, and received a Democrat Service Award for her work with the party. In addition, she served on the Logan County Planning and Zoning Commission and was an election judge for many years.

She and her husband were also active members of the Rocky Mountain Farmer's Union and she spent 30 years as a Farmer's Union workshop teacher in Peetz. She was a longtime member of the Peetz United Methodist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, choir director and board member, and was active with the Peetz United Methodist Women's organization acting as president for many years and was treasurer of the District UMW. She and her husband participated in the Peetz School Alumni Association and acted as chairmen of the five-year reunion committee for many years.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert of Peetz; sons, Bob and wife Sue of Sterling and Dave and Marsha of Peetz; sisters, Etta Williams and husband Ken of New Boston, Texas, and Marlene "Corky" Fleming and husband Ken of Sidney, Neb.; and a brother, Glenn Bartels and wife Carol of Gothenburg, Neb.; five grandsons, Jason, Brent and wife Bev, Greg and wife Jordan, Brian and Doug and wife Jess; and seven great-grandchildren, Adam, Sarah, Matthew, Seraphim, Lily, Kaileigh and Quinton.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry; a sister, Jennie McKinney; and her parents.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Peetz United Methodist Women for mission fund work or to the church.
