Obituary

Dorothy May Armstrong, 91, of Aurora, formerly a longtime resident of Sterling, died May 2, 2011, in Aurora. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 9, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michelle D. Witherspoon officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Armstrong was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Denver, to Martin A. and Ida (Christiansen) Moritz. She graduated from North High School in Denver and continued her education at the University of Northern Colorado for four years.

She taught English in Eaton and Pierce during World War II, then became a homemaker.

On July 18, 1942, she married Leo M. Armstrong in Ayer, Mass. They were married for 56 years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, Girl Scouts, Presbyterian Women`s Church Circle and Humanities Club.

She enjoyed needlework, volunteering at the Sterling Tourist Information Center, and the camera club.

Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her daughters, Carol Shaulis and husband Bill, Janet Daniel and husband Roger, Julie Armstrong; grandchildren, Bryan Daniel, Christopher Shaulis, Barry Shaulis and Vicki Daniel Wanjura; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Armstrong in 1999.
