Doris Koester Doris Elvira Falk Koester, 76, of Sterling, died of natural causes on Jan. 8, 2011, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at First Baptist Church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 14, 1934, in the McKnight Hospital in Haxtun. Dr. Portia Lubshenco delivered her to her parents, Silas Albert and Elvira Johanna (Mellberg) Falk. She was the youngest of three children, a brother, Wayne "Jack," and a sister, Edna Glee. She grew up on a farm northeast of Haxtun in the Fairfield community. She attended the Fairfield community. She attended Fairfield Elementary School and high school in Haxtun.
Doris married Jimmy Allen Koester on Oct. 9, 1960, in the Haxtun United Methodist Church. She and her husband lived in the Sterling area for 43 1/2 years, of which 37 years were on a farm and ranch near the North Sterling Reservoir.
She was a mom and homemaker, assisting in the operation of the farm and ranch as well as working part-time as a bookkeeper and general office clerk/stenographer. Prior to her retirement, she worked seven years for a home medical equipment company.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir as well as singing solos at church, funerals and weddings. She attended church and Sunday school as well as Thursday Afternoon Bible Study (TABS) Out to Lunch Bunch. She was a past Matron of Sterling Eastern Star and a member for over 50 years.
Doris and Jim were the parents of Leon Allen Koester and loving grandparents of Zakary and Olivia Koester.
She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, watching the Broncos, collecting decorative slippers and the professional bull riders. With Jim she shared an interest in the Colorado State Elks Catch-A-Calf sponsor and helped for 16 years with the Little Britches rodeos in Sterling.
She is survived by her son, Leon; grandchildren, Zakary and Olivia; her brother, Wayne Falk and wife Patricia; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; and her sister, Glee Orcutt; and brother-in-law, Doyle Orcutt.
