Donald Dean Stuck

Donald Dean Stuck, 89, of Sterling, died May 5, 2007, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Closed-casket funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Chaney-Reager with the Rev. Derek DeToni-Hill officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Donald was born Sept. 13, 1917, to William L. and Carrie (Adams) Stuck at his parents' home in Atwood. He farmed west of Sterling, where he raised watermelons during the depression era. His family lived in the cement-block house that was moved to the Overland Trail Museum. He graduated from Sterling High School and attended Colorado Teachers College in Greeley.
He was drafted into the service during World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a communications officer in Iceland, North Africa and Guam.
On Dec. 10, 1944, he married Doris G. Noell in Fresno, Calif. After the war, he and Doris started their family and farmed west of Sterling. He worked for Denver Grain Elevator for a number of years before operating a Standard Oil service station, Stuck's Standard Service.
After retiring from the business, he assisted Doris in the family-owned craft store, Craft Center of Colorado. After selling the craft store, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with the family. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Sterling.
Donald is survived by his wife, Doris Stuck of Sterling; sons, Henry Stuck of Berthoud and Duane Stuck of Sterling; daughter, Marjorie Veselik and husband Ronald of Parker; four grandchildren, Jennifer Schafer of Loveland, Jessica Harrison of Maple Grove, Minn., Christopher Stuck of Fort Collins, and Daniel Stuck of Greeley; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Carrie Stuck; and three brothers.
Memorials may be made to the O'Connell House at the Overland Trail Museum in Sterling, the boyhood home of Don Stuck.
