Obituary

Donald Gorham Donald Wayne Gorham, 86, of Sterling, died May 4, 2011, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Zion Congregational Church, with the Rev. Chuck Vorderberg officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery with military rites.

Mr. Gorham was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Sterling, to Lyle Emerson and Luella (Maxfeldt) Gorham. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1942.

He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II in 1942 and was discharged in February 1946. He owned and operated his own grocery store for several years. Later, he worked in retail for various businesses until he retired at the age of 62.

On Nov. 23, 1947, he married Ethel Kindsfater at First Christian Church in Sterling. They were married for 47 years before her death in 1994.

Mr. Gorham was a member of Zion Congregational Church, a lifetime member of BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336, Heritage Center, Council on Aging and AARP. He enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes and whistling.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Lohmeyer and husband Jerry of Yuma; sisters-in-law, Dora Kindsfater of Sterling and Dorothy Kindsfater of Milwaukee, Wis.; nephews, Wade Budd, Mike and Roger Waterman and Daniel Kindsfater; nieces, Kaleen Ruth, Gail Hernandez, Claudia Budd and Dianna Gortel; several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Gorham; sisters, Dorothy Bartholomew and LaDonna Budd; and brother, Leland Gorham.
