Donald "Don" Jay Gorbutt, 74, of Fleming, died Jan. 26, 2010, in Denver. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Fleming United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Hiestand officiating. Interment will be in Fleming.
Mr. Gorbutt was born Jan. 31, 1935, in Grainton, Neb., to Ellery Jay and Clara Louise (Harms) Gorbutt. He started his schooling in Grainton, Neb., and graduated from Curtis High School in 1953 in Curtis.
He entered the U.S. Army and after his discharge, he drove truck for his uncles, Harms Brothers, Inc. He drove for more than 50 years, and later owned and operated the business.
On Feb. 20, 1960, he was married to Darlene Ellen Acott at the Fleming United Methodist Church by the Rev. Parmenter. They were married almost 50 years.
Mr. Gorbutt was a member of Fleming United Methodist Church, retired volunteer fireman, Fleming Town Council and zoning board member. He enjoyed fishing, camping, building model semi trucks, car racing, tractor pulls, hunting and golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Gorbutt of Fleming; daughter, Debora Brown and husband Randy of Haxtun; son, Darrell Gorbutt of Fleming; grandsons, Jack Smith of Phoenix and Adam Smith and wife Tosha of Craig and Kerry Brown, Wichita, Kansas; great-grandson, Kolby Smith of Craig; sister, Doris Allen Nelson of British Columbia, Canada; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
