Donald Lee Albrandt, 86, passed away Monday, June 22, 2026, in Sterling Colorado after several years of prolonged illnesses. Viewing will be held from 1-4:00 p.m., Monday, June 29, at Halouska Family Chaney-Reager FH. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 30 at Halouska Family Chaney-Reager FH with Pastor Pat Riley officiating. Don will be laid to rest at Riverside cemetery.

Don was born on March 9, 1940, in Atwood, Colorado to Henry and Ernestine Albrandt. He was the youngest of 7 boys (Herman, Ed, Ray, Harold, Gene, and Hubert). He attended Lutheran Primary School and Sterling High School. A year after high school Don married the love of his life Dorothy (Lane) August 16, 1959. They were inseparable over their 64 plus years of marriage until Dorothy’s passing in 2025.

Don’s early working career included jobs at Toledo Scale in Denver and Foxhoven’s Tire Shop in Sterling, until he started working at LH&M Garage in Sterling as an auto mechanic. In the early 70’s Don became part owner of LH&M Garage serving the Sterling community until his retirement in 2005.

After retirement Don and Dorothy enjoyed the next phase of their lives traveling to car shows in their 46 Chevy Coupe that Don built. They put over 100,000 miles on that car going to car shows everywhere from Missouri to Oregon. Although they enjoyed looking at all the cars at the shows, they mostly enjoyed traveling with and making new friends at the shows. Don was never a stranger wherever he went, he would always see someone he knew from his years as a mechanic or from his travels at car shows.

Don was also a fixture at the J&L Cafe in Sterling as well, where he went for breakfast nearly every morning, and coffee every afternoon with “the boys”.

Don is survived by his son Richard and his wife Donna (Freeman) along with multiple nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Donald’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
