She was born Aug. 8, 1927 in Abby, Neb., the daughter of Edward and Lydia Zima. After living in Kearney,Neb., and Lyons, the family moved to Sterling where "Dottie" graduated from Sterling High School.

When her mother remarried a Nebraska farmer, Doloris and her siblings often worked tirelessly in the summer months in the corn and wheat fields helping.

After high school graduation Doloris worked at JCPenneys in Downtown Sterling as a stock manager. She also talked fondly of helping at the North Platte, Neb., Canteen providing refreshments and hospitality to soldiers traveling through the area on their way to their WWII assignments.

She married Dave Korrey on Nov. 27, 1947. Doloris was a stay-at-home mother who took pride in caring for their four children.

Mrs. Korrey was a fabulous cook, and especially loved feeding her family, making sure there was always a family dinner on the table when her children lived at home, and then always making food and sending it home with them as adults. Her banana bread was a coveted commodity making its way to loved ones on both sides of the country and as corporate Christmas gifts in Sterling.

She also loved to can vegetables, especially cucumbers and tomatoes, and to pickle beets.

Dottie was a lifelong crocheter, especially loving to make afghans for her children and grandchildren, and was working on poncho before she became ill.

Dottie loved to laugh and spend time with her family, playing cards and on rare occasions going to Blackhawk.

She was an avid bowler, winning numerous trophies during the Sterling Women's Bowling Association League Play. When she was able, Doloris also loved playing cards and bingo at the Logan County Heritage Center and particularly loved walking outdoors and spending time with her beloved sister Leona until her death, and her sister-in-law Lila until she moved to Arizona.

Mrs. Korrey was an early member of the DOES in Sterling and keeping her membership active in the American Legion Auxiliary was very important to her.

Doloris was preceded in death by her husband Dave Korrey in 2009, her father Edward Zima, her mother and step-father Lydia and Russsel O'Daniel, her beloved Aunt Rose and husband Tom Hubbell, brother Milo Zima and sister Leona Nelms.

Mrs. Korrey is survived by her children: one son, David Korrey and wife Patty of San Diego, Calif; daughters, Debby Korrey of Sterling, Delinda Korrey McDowell and husband Ken of Sterling, and Darla Korrey and husband JB Severin of Los Angeles, Calif.; granddaughters: Allison Korrey of Los Angeles, Calif., and Rachel Korrey of Santa Barbara, Calif.; sisters-in-law Mary May of Greeley and Lila Zima, of Julesburg; several nephews and nieces, including Kathy Nelms, and family friends, especially Sylvia Gertge, of Sterling.

"Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean 'I'll miss you, until we meet again.'"
