Dennis Eugene Everhart, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, in Sterling, CO. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 23, at Sterling Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Dennis was born on May 3, 1938, in Bushnell, NE, to Elmer Everhart and Glenna Atkinson Everhart. He grew up in New Raymer, CO, and joined the Marines in 1961 as an electronics Technician, earning the rank of sergeant. He married Evelyn Anderson on September 10, 1966, in Arlington, VA. He graduated from Northeastern Junior College in 1968 and from Colorado State University in 1970 with a degree in Vocational Agriculture. Dennis was a high school agriculture teacher for 26 years at Woodlin High School. Following his retirement from teaching, he served as a county commissioner for ten years in Washington County, CO. Dennis and Evelyn also owned a convenience store in Last Chance, CO.
Dennis received numerous awards and accolades, including induction to the Colorado Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2007 and Region II Outstanding Agricultural Education Teacher 1997-98. He was active in Lions Club and his church, enjoyed woodworking, supporting his grandchildren, and most of all, loved spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn of 53 years, parents Elmer and Glenna, and siblings: Dorothy, Elmer Allen, Marvin, Elinor Darlene, Barbara Louise, Elva, and Rolland Dean.
Dennis is survived by his three sons: Doug and wife Lori of Fort Collins, Todd and wife Jennifer of Sterling, and Dennis and wife Amy of Sterling; five grandchildren: Tate, Morgan, Chance, Peyton, and Tyler; stepmother Irene Everhart of Brush: and three siblings: Shirley Fiscus and husband Jack of Sterling, Charles, and wife Denise of Boerne, TX, and Melvin and wife Deb of Greeley.
The family requests that instead of sending flowers, memorials be made to the Dennis Everhart Memorial Fund in c/o Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, PO Box 1046, Sterling, CO 80751.
