Deana Rasmussen, 91, of Sterling, passed away Jan. 24, 2011, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Peace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Eugene Zeller officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Kimball Cemetery in Kimball, Neb.
Deana was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Kimball to Arthur Roy and B. Olive (Dean) Bourlier. She grew up on a farm 30 miles south of Kimball, near Bushnell, Neb. She went to grade school in a one-room country schoolhouse. She rode a horse to school or went by horse and buggy. She graduated from Kimball High School. She worked for her room and board while going to school.
Deana met the love of her life, Elmer Rasmussen. They married Feb. 26, 1938, in Julesburg. They had been married for 60 years when Elmer passed away in 1998. When they were first married, they lived south of Kimball, farming and milking cows. In 1944, they purchased a ranch in the West Plains community. That is where they raised their six children.
In early 1970, they purchased a farm and ranch near Sterling, where they resided until Elmer's death.
Deana was baptised in the Lutheran faith in 1973. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
She was a member of Colorado Cattlewomen, Extension Homemakers (now the Rainbow Club) for more than 50 years, and a member of the church quilt makers. She loved to sew, make quilts and do embroidery work.
She had jobs at Sterling Greenhouse and later was a hostess at Pizza Hut until she retired when Elmer became ill.
She is survived by her sons, Dean Rasmussen and wife Sheri of Sterling, Roy Rasmussen and wife Lola of Kearney, Neb.; daughters, Elaine Raffelson of Padroni, Bonnie Koenig of Kennewick, Wash., Kay Clemens and husband Vince of Wallace, Neb., and Elna Hamilton and husband Howard of Crook; special friends, Edna Nichal, Bonnie North and Beverly Williams; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Deana was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Rasmussen; two infant brothers; and sister, LaVon Culek.
Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Plains.
