David W. Dick “Dave”, 73, of Sterling, passed away Monday, June 8, 2026, from pancreatic cancer and previously had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Per Dave’s request, cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled.

Dave was born on December 15th, 1952, to William “Bill” Dick and Martha Koehler. Dave went to Elementary, Jr. High and high school in Crook, CO. After graduation, he married Ruth Nichols and two children were born to this union, a son Brady and a daughter Mindy.

On September 20, 1980, he married Becki Henry Lauer, and he gained a stepson Chad Lauer. Dave and Becki were married for 45 years. Dave and Becki farmed and ranched in Crook for 8 years. They then made the decision to move to Sterling where Dave held some welding jobs and some feedlot work as well.

In March of 2003, they bought Process Fabricators, changing the name to Frontier Fabricating LLC as they owned and operated Frontier along with their son Chad Lauer. Frontier was known for producing one of the best oilfield tanks in Colorado. It was a sad day when the decision was made to close Frontier in July of 2022 due to Chad’s passing from COVID and also the progression of Dave’s Alzheimer’s. Dave would often say these were some of the happiest times in his life!

After closing Frontier, Dave would spend a lot of time at the barn mowing and making little odds and ends of things. He particularly enjoyed making wooden ducks out of old wood he would find lying around. The time he liked and enjoyed the most was watching his grandchildren ride their horses or just goof off with their 4 wheelers or their golf cart.

Papa loved to get on his 4-wheeler and Caylee and Carson would get on their 4-wheelers and they would go out to the pasture. It was Papa’s job to make sure everyone came back safe and sound and they always did!

Dave is preceded in death by his stepson Chad Lauer, his father Bill Dick and his stepmother LaVene Dick, his mother Martha Brunkhardt and his stepfather Alvin Brunkhardt, his grandma, Martha Koehler who he loved dearly and his grandpa Adam Koehler who he loved being with every second he could. Also, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Cecil and Mildred Henry, special niece Lori Randall and brother-in-law Dick Briggs.

Dave is survived by his wife Becki, granddaughter Caylee Lauer and his grandson Carson Lauer; his son Brady and Brady’s son Zachary; his daughter Mindy and her children Jayden, Jayce, Jessalyn and Liam; his brother Marty and his family; his sister Julie and her family; stepsisters Billie and her family and Becky and her family. Dave is also survived by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and many good friends!

At the end, Dave fought a hard and courageous battle and he won!! He is now at peace, free from pain and frustration and he is enjoying his time with all the loved ones that have gone before and possibly telling a tall tale or two!! He will be sadly missed, but will always be remembered with love.
