David "Frank" Cortez, 63, of Sterling, passed away March 2, 2013, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral service 10:30a.m. Fri., March 8, 2013 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with minister Scott Sangster officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

David was born Aug. 14, 1949, in Sterling to Luis M. and Guadalupe (Torres) Cortez. He graduated from Sterling High School.

David was an over-the-road truck driver for VY Trucking.

On Feb. 23, 2001, he married Joan C. Gaumitz in Sterling.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 20. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and his family.

David is survived by his wife, Joan Cortez of Sterling; daughters, Monica Sangster and husband Dimitri of Aurora, Melinda Walser and husband Mike of Sterling, Capt. Melissa Mueller and husband Jon of Camp Lejeune, N.C., Josie Hector and husband Duane of Sterling; son, John Headley and wife Steph of Sterling; brother, Reuben Cortez and wife Claire of Camano Island, Wash.; sisters, Carol Guerra of Lakewood, Josie Rivas and husband Manuel of Denver; sisters, Rachel Moreno and husband Ray of Greeley, Terry Abbott of Loveland; and grandchildren, Boston, Carle, Bailey, Dominique, Deja, Jace, Hope, Ruthie, Taylor, Austin, Haley and Brandon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Plains or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
