Darwin Dean Bierman, 86 of Sterling passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 27, 2022. A Celebration of Darwin's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 10, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Darwin will be laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Mansfield, South Dakota at a later date.

Darwin was born January 13, 1936, in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Benjamin C. Bierman and Kathryn (Kiest) Wegner. He graduated from Cresbard High School in May of 1954 and attended Southern State Teachers College where he received a diploma in auto body repair. Darwin was the owner/operator of Hygiene Autobody Shop for 25 years.

Darwin served in the U.S. Army as a Private 1 ^st class for 2 years, and then served in the Army Reserves for 6 years. While in the Army, he received training for military truck maintenance and successfully completed auto maintenance and auto mechanic school. Darwin was married to Beverly Jean (Waggoner) Marsh for 40 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #20 and faithfully served on the honor guard team.

He also was a lifetime VFW member and would always volunteer at VFW functions. Darwin loved classic cars and shows, and he especially loved to salvage. He also enjoyed collecting coins, fishing, hunting and spending time and drinking a few beers with friends, as well as his family.

He was well known for his playfulness, sense of humor, and loved telling stories and joking around.

He never met a stranger he didn't like and befriend. He will be most remembered around town by his feathers in his hat and collecting cans on his daily walk to Henry's. He will be so missed by his family and friends; we love you papa!

He is preceded in death by his wife Beverly Jean Marsh; parents Ben and Kathryn; brothers Byron and Hubert; sister Isabella and his daughter Marsha.

Darwin is survived by his children Beverly "BJ" (Thomas Gerbitz) Lavender, Anthony "Eddie" (Julie Fitz John) Marsh, Rachel Marsh and Crysti (Mark) Owens; grandchildren Emily, Samantha, Kayleigh, Ashley, Tony, Eddie, Derek, Amber, Sierra, Sydney, Caitlyne, Billy, Tommy and Anastasia and great grandchildren Uther, Odin, Harley, Troy and Athena.
