Dale William Hurst, 95 of Sterling passed away, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Devonshire Acres. Visitation will be held from 1 pm to 8 pm, Tuesday, January 8 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with family receiving from 6 – 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 9 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Elder Sandy St. John officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Dale was born November 11, 1923 in Oregon, Missouri to Frederick O. and Luella Bell (Hoffmann) Hurst. Dale moved to Sterling in 1960's and he helped open the Beef Plant. He married Rhoda J. Elford on July 17, 1964 in Miami, Oklahoma. Dale worked many years at the beef plant and he later retired as a foreman. After retirement, Dale stayed busy working with the handicap people and volunteering as a driver for Meals on Wheels. He was an avid gardener for over 75 years and he enjoyed fishing. Dale was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church, Jake Uhrig VFW Post 3541, American Legion Post 20 and the BPO Elk's Lodge #1336. He was also very active in the VFW providing military honors for the fallen veterans.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rhoda; ex-wife Roberta "Dean" Lee; son Mike Mattox; 4 brothers, Melvin, Elmer, Ivan and Guy Hurst and sister Helen Karr.

Dale is survived by his son, Gary D. (Ginny) Hurst of Savannah, MO; daughters, Kelly (Terry) Hileman of Conway, MO and Cheryl (Bridgette Henry) Hurst of Kansas City, MO; ten grandchildren, Heidi Hurst, Dustin (Katie) Hurst, Amber Mattox, Brandon Hileman, Koty (Tia) Hileman, Mike (Emma) Mattox, Robert (Malissa) Holen, Jeff (Amanda) Stratton, Vernon Stratton, Jr. and Mindy (Erik) Kuntz; nine great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
