Dale Alan Bortz, 86, of Sterling, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 19, 2026, with his family by his side. Per his request cremation, has taken place and no services will be held.

Dale was born on January 10, 1940, in Canon City, Colorado to Lester Charles Bortz and Helen Marie (Evans) Bortz. He grew up in Canon City working at the family gas station.

Dale joined the U.S. Air Force and was an airplane mechanic in the Bahamas during the Cuban missile crisis. He was honorably discharged from service on November 6, 1962, and moved to Leadville. Dale married Carol Kissinger and they raised their family in Leadville. He worked for many years for Mountain Bell Telephone Company as a central office technician. He later married Bertha Hradeckey and they lived in Salida. Dale retired from the phone company and they moved to Sterling. Dale was a longtime member of the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his wife Bertha, son Shannon, daughter Tamara, ex-wife Carol and son-in-law Alfred.

Dale is survived by his children Shawn, April, DeeDee Dawn and Shawna Anita; siblings Jeanan, Julie and Duane; and grandchildren Anthony, Zachary, Christopher, Caroline, Cory, Josh, and Daniel.
