Cody Douglas Waitley, age 26, of Sterling, CO collapsed suddenly and passed away on July 1, 2023 in Sidney, NE.

Cody was born on June 29, 1997 in Sterling to Doug and Mary Kay (Brammer) Waitley. He grew up in the country east of Sterling, attending Prairie Elementary School, then was homeschooled by his maternal grandparents of Merino. At age 11, he was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy which led to a heart transplant on September 10, 2014 at age 17.  Because of his medical costs, he was the recipient of two fund raising benefits: a pancake supper hosted by Christ United Methodist Church and a rodeo/auction by Feeders & Friends of New Raymer.

Cody married Kiara Cushatt-Kalcevic on February 28, 2020 in Wyoming making their home most recently in Sterling.  He was employed by Larralde Farms.

Cody was preceded in death by his grandfathers Forrest Waitley and Kenneth W. Brammer, and two miscarried children. He is survived by his wife, his parents, his brother Scott Waitley and fiancee Cember Brumbaugh, and his grandmothers LaVerna Waitley and Kathy Brammer.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Rock River Station, 18500 Country Rd 46, Sterling, CO.  Casual cowboy attire is encouraged along with a hat for those who wish to participate in Cody's last ride with his horse.
