Clarence Frank Smith, 91 of Sterling, passed away Fri. Jan. 23, 2015 in Sterling. Memorial service 1:30 pm Thurs., Jan. 29 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Bigler III officiating. Miliary rites with inurnment to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Clarence was born Dec. 29, 1924 in Haxtun, CO to Harvey and Mary Priebe Smith. He graduated from high school. Clarence served in the US Army during World War II from Oct. 1944 until his honorable discharge Nov. 1946. He received several medals including the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star.
He married Norma Forell on Sept. 30, 1947 in Haxtun, CO. Clarence worked for Mitchell Pontiac and Bill Venohr Chrysler Plymouth in Sterling and was manager at Stickney Tires for several years.
Clarence was a life member of the Sterling VFW Post No. 3541 and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1336. He enjoyed watching the great grandson's sports events and playing golf and fishing.
He is survived by his son Dennis R. Smith and wife Linda of Sterling; sister Bernice Collins of Sterling; grandchildren Stacie Smith of Fort Collins and Nicki Smith and George Jason Kloberdanz of Sterling; great grandchildren Peyton Kloberdanz and Braedon Kloberdanz and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma Smith in 2013, son Gerald Smith in 2007, brothers Gene, Leonard, Richard and Harold Smith.
