Charles B. Halouska, 79 of Sterling, CO entered into Heaven on Monday, May 4, 2026. A closed casket funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., MT, on Monday, May 11 at Halouska Family Chaney-Reager FH with Pastor Timothy Hazen officiating. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., CST on Tuesday, May 12 at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington, Nebraska.
Charles was born November 15, 1946, in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Howard Edward and Lillian Alice (Christensen) Halouska. Charles graduated from Lexington High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 13, 1966, and was assigned to the Military Police Division. He received his orders to go to Vietnam and said his goodbyes to the family and returned to his unit awaiting deployment. 10 days before his deployment his orders were changed and his MP unit was sent to Nuremburg, Germany due to a riot at the stockade. He served in Germany for almost 2 years.
While in Germany he met the love of his life, Erika Rupprecht, a blue eyed, blonde haired German girl. He met her on the trolley car; and the story was that he got “lost” and needed directions back to the base! He proposed and they were engaged for almost a year. Charles and Erika were married on December 21, 1967, in Nuremburg, Germany. They were married twice on the same day; once through the German Consulate and the other through American side. Charles was discharged from the Army on November 23, 1968, and the couple moved to the United States where they resided in Lexington, NE for several years.
Charles attended Body & Fender School through a local college. He eventually went to work for Monroe Shocks and Struts in Cozad, NE. They later moved to Fowler, CO when Erika’s health required a drier climate. Charles worked for the Pueblo Chemical Depot for many years and later transferred to the Yuma Proving Grounds in Yuma, AZ. They made their way back to Colorado where Charles worked at the Four Mile Correctional Facility for many years. He retired and moved to Fowler, Sugar City and eventually to Sterling, CO.
Charles grew up on a farm and his love for the farm/ranch never left. He was avid collector of 78 and 33 records and was able to see his favorite musician many times. One of the highlights of his life was when he and his father travelled to Canada to watch the Montana Slim/Wilf Carter farewell concert.
Charles and Erika volunteered their time assisting those in need through Love In Action in Lexington, NE and Cooperative Ministries in Pueblo, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Charles B. Halouska, Jr., who tragically died in 1970, sister Elsie Halouska, and brother Kenneth Halouska.
Charles is survived by his wife Erika, daughter Claudia Baldwin, son Edward (Amalia) Halouska; grandchildren Tiffany (Harley) Cole, Erika (Jason) Shepherd, Jacob (Robyn) Halouska, Joshua Halouska, Victoria (Vincent) Koeller, Alexandrea (Adam Marshall) Halouska and Rebecca Baldwin; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; brothers Don (Ann) Halouska and Gerald (Linda) Halouska and sister Becky (Dale) Young.
