Charleen L. Kaufman

Charleen L. Kaufman, 77, of Atwood, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, in Fort Morgan. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with the family receiving guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Peace Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Charleen was born June 16, 1930 to Gilbert Hounshell and Mallie Wilson in Fremont, Neb. She graduated from San Bernadino High School in 1948 and received her degree from the San Bernadino Valley College of Nursing in 1951.

She was a registered nurse, working for Dr. R.W. Ludwick and also worked as a school nurse, at Logan County Hospital and Devonshire Acres Nursing Home.

On March 14, 1954, she married Elmer C. Kaufman, the love of her life, in Sterling. They made their home in Atwood.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and Drove. No. 213 Patriotic Order of the Does. She loved playing games, especially bingo, and was an avid dog lover. Her favorite past-time was playing cards with her family. After retirement, Charleen and Elmer enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren.

Charleen is survived by her daughters, Nancy Jo Schiaffo and husband Anthony, Estes Park, Peggy Ann Kaufman of Sterling, and Jo Ann Gammon and husband Mark of Longmont; brother, Robert Hounshell and wife Shirley of Sterling; grandchildren, Erin Wilson, Renee Robidart and husband Joel, and Amy Hewitt; great-grandchildren, Madison, Jaden and Rocco; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer Kaufman in 1995; sisters, Marjorie Gregory and Helen Boothe; and brother, Willis Hounshell.
