Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Cecil Edward Souders, 74, of Sterling, Colorado. He left this world on Friday, February 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to his community. A memorial service to celebrate Cecil's life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 19, at Christ United Methodist Church in Sterling.

Cecil was born to Cecil Ermit and Alberta Mae Souders on April 17, 1950, in Sterling, Colorado. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1968. On November 7, 1970, he married the love of his life, Helen Ann Hicks, and they built their life together and welcomed into this world a daughter, Kendra, and a son, Scott. He was a hard worker and started as a mixer driver before working his way up to Plant Foreman at Sterling Ready Mix.

Cecil was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he found strength in his faith. He was deeply committed to improving his community, serving in various leadership roles over the years. Cecil was a 32nd-degree Mason and past Worshipful Master of Sterling Lodge #54. His dedication to the Masonic fraternity was evident in his involvement with the numerous bodies he was active with.

He was also a dedicated member of the Sterling Elks Lodge and served as Past Exalted Ruler. Cecil's commitment to community service extended to the Logan County Sheriff's Posse, where he held the rank of Captain, and to the Sterling Rifle Club, where he served as President. Additionally, Cecil devoted time as a 4-H leader, mentoring and guiding young people in his community.

Cecil's legacy is one of unwavering service, leadership, and compassion. He was a friend, mentor, and guiding force for many, and his impact on the community will not be forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Alberta Souders, brother David Souders, son Scott Souders, and son-in-law Rusty Walter.

Cecil is survived by his wife Helen Souders, daughter Kendra Walter of Trinidad, CO, grandchildren Ashley (Doug) Frederickson of Raton, NM, Kimmi (Jim) Stinson of Fowler, CO, Jacob Walter of Fowler, CO, and Robert Walter of Trinidad, CO along with many great grandchildren and brother Dennis (Jean) Souders of Nickerson, KS, and sister Louise Jones of Sterling, CO. He is also survived by his cousin and good friend Dennis Hielscher, who was always helping out.
