Carolyn Helmut, 86 of Atwood died February 27, 2017 at Hospice in Greeley. Visitation will be from 10 am to 4 pm Friday March 3rd at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 am Saturday March 4th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sterling with the Rev. James R. Nash officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Helmut was born August 25, 1930 in Ft. Morgan to David and Anna (Weimer) Sagel. She graduated from Ft. Morgan High School. On February 22, 1953, she married Victor Helmut in Ft. Morgan. They were married 55 years. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved farm life. She enjoyed playing softball in her younger years and loved watching her daughters play sports. She also enjoyed following the Broncos and Rockies. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in the Ruth Guild women's group. She loved sewing and helped make quilts for the church. Mrs. Helmut is survived by her daughters, Cindy Lick and husband Doug of Greeley, Jamie Helmut of Atwood, and Vicki Hein and husband Ken of Greeley; sister Lydia Hoffmann of Greeley.

She was preceded in death by husband Victor Helmut; her parents; brothers, Dave, Jake, Carl, and Fred Sagel, and infant sister Marie. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church c/o Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, Box 1046, Sterling, CO.
