Calvin Brooks Mentzel, 40, of Sterling, Colorado, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Per his request cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled.

Calvin was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where he also attended school. Calvin married the love of his life, Kortney, on October 31, 2019. Together they built a life filled with quiet companionship and care for one another.

Calvin was a man who kept to himself, but those who knew him best appreciated his thoughtful and creative spirit. He had a dry sense of humor that could bring a smile at just the right moment. He enjoyed watching old black and white films, playing his guitar, and expressing himself through drawing.

Calvin's family and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared with him, his wit, and the unique light he brought into their lives.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Kerm Scheel, and his uncle, Gregg Scheel.

Calvin is survived by his mother, Nancy Mentzel; his wife, Kortney; his brothers, Randal Mentzel and Joe Mentzel with his wife, Kaitlin; his niece, Marly, and his nephew, Kellan; and his grandmother, Carol Scheel.
