Calvin Engelhaupt, 89, of Sterling, passed away Oct. 18, 2012, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at First English Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Loeschke officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Calvin was born June 7, 1923, in Sterling to Michael Robert and Ollie Leota (Wood) Engelhaupt. He was the seventh son of a seventh son. He was raised in Crook, graduating from Crook High School in 1943.

He farmed until 1945, when he volunteered for the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific, Guam, Japan and Hawaii. Upon his honorable discharge, Calvin went back to farming in the Crook area until the late 1960s, when he went into real estate. He never thought of retiring.

Calvin married his longtime sweetheart, Loma Montgomery Hecht.

He was a member of First English Lutheran Church, American Legion Post No. 20 and the NRA. He also served as a trustee at church.

He loved people, especially children. He loved to hunt, fish and travel, and enjoyed being with people, his family and his many friends. He never met anyone he didn't like.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Loma Engelhaupt of Sterling; and many very special nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and four brothers.
