Brenda Jean Ramey, 69 passed away unexpectedly Saturday April 16, 2022, at Sterling Regional Med Center. She will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.

She was born July 13, 1952, in Sidney, NE to Joseph St. Lawrence and Jean (Hippen) Glassburn and left this beautiful world April 16, 2022.

Brenda grew up in Sidney working the family flower shop, playing in the band, being a part of the spirit squad and reading books. She was the eldest of four children consisting of siblings Barb, Brad and Beth. Following high school she ventured south to Sterling to attend NJC.  It is here she met the love of her life Timothy Ramey. They were married in Sidney on September 2, 1972 and spent their early years together on the Ramey farm/ranch northeast of town.  Trevor and Sarah joined them and thus started her life of never missing events for 'her people.'

In Sterling she taught classes at NJC, and worked at both local fabric stores The Nimble Thimble and Quilts & Creations.  Her ability and passion for making quilts and all things fabric came from Tim's grandmother Wilma Mahoney. A new career for Tim took the family to Brush in 1986.  This is where her other passion grew even more.  She loved books, reading and helping others discover the love of reading.  She served as the children's librarian at the Brush Public Library and the school librarian at Brush Middle School. One other key piece of living in Brush was meeting her best friend for life Susan Balderston.

Another move took the Ramey's to Hereford, TX in 1992. She continued to sew, chase kids to events and make more friends. She served as a substitute teacher for HISD and many times a long term sub, especially for SPED at Shirley Elementary.  One final career move took three of them to Wichita, KS. Brenda dove head first into the Prairie Quilt Guild, serving as a board member, president and co-chair with Kim Hull for one of the largest quilt shows in the world.  Her PQG group was immensely special and a few of the members have been lifelong friends.  She also spent time working at Hen Feather's Quilt shop.

Tim's retirement brought them back to Sterling where she continued to chase kid's events, the grands and those that she treated like grands.  The quilt making continued and will be a legacy that so many can continue to wrap up in her love forever.

She was preceded in death by her father Joseph St. Lawrence who passed when she was 2, mother Jean, stepfather Gordon Glassburn, in-laws Victor and Jean Ramey and Aunt Ruth Mayer.

Brenda is survived by her husband Tim Ramey of Sterling, son Trevor and wife Kelly Ramey of Dalhart, TX, his children Ethan and Addison and their mother Tanya of Sterling, Sarah Ramey of Canyon, TX, sister Beth and husband Emory Oliverius of Lodgepole, NE, sister Barb and husband Don Miles, brother Brad Glassburn, cousin Kenny Mayer of Sidney, NE, and dog Creasey.  Other family include sister-in-love Rhonda Roth and Ron Smith of Sterling, Kassie Roth, Luke Breidenbach, Emma, Hayden and Gabe of Iliff, Tom, Helen and Gus Smith of Omaha, NE, Tyrell and Willow Oliverius of Chappell, NE, Travis, Abbey, Tatum, Audrey and Ruthie Oliverius of Lodgepole, NE, Riley, Trinity and Waylon Oliverius of Lodgepole, NE, Scott, Gina, Holden and Janessa Ramey of Otis, and long-time best friend Susan Balderston of Brush.

In lieu of flowers we would like donations to be made in her name.  Please note on the check if it will go the Prairie Quilt Guild (Wichita, KS) or Brenda's Book Fund where the funds will be split between the Sterling, Brush and Hereford Public Libraries. Please send to Chaney-Reager Funeral Home c/o Brenda Ramey Memorial, P.O. Box 1046, Sterling, CO 80751.
