Bonnie Joy, 63, of County Road 76, Crook, died at her farm home on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Please join the family at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, for a celebration of Bonnie's adventurous, giving and loving life at the Crook Community Center/Firehouse, 105 First St., 80726, I-76 Exit 149 north, then just across the railroad tracks.
Born Bonnie Joy Relyea in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she grew up in Norfolk, Va. She moved to Colorado in 1971, living in Idaho Springs and Denver before moving to Crook in 1997.
Earning her teaching degree and two master's degrees, she taught elementary school in Northglenn for 20 years. After retirement, she was a substitute teacher at Caliche High School in Iliff. She also used her training in zone therapy to bring relief from health problems to many Sterling and Crook residents.
Bonnie was a world traveler, Kenya and Ecuador/Galapagos Islands being two of her favorite places. She was also a naturalist and outdoorswoman, enjoying hunting, fishing, rockhounding and competitive shooting. She won many IPSIC shooting competitions. She was also active in the Crook Red Hat Society.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Terry Wadlow; two sons, Steven Ator and Douglas Ator and wife Lisa; three grandchildren, Tristen, Taylore and Brenden, all of Denver; and her sister, Leslie Sawyer and husband Richard of Virginia Beach, Va.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Plains, Inc., the Nature Conservancy or the Crook Volunteer Fire Department.
