Betty Lucille (Schott) Karg, 79, of Sterling, passed away Nov. 11, 2009, in Brush. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Closed casket services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the First Christian Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Dale Wesley and Rev. Victor Karg officiating. A graveside service will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Betty was born on March 31, 1930, in Atwood, the eldest of six children born to Robert and Amelia (Friztler) Schott. Betty attended grammar school in both Sterling and Crook graduating from Crook High School in 1948.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Betty met the love of her life, Herbert W. Karg. They were married in October of 1949.
Herb and Betty worked hard farming for over 50 years in the Crook, Merino, and Atwood area. Betty was an excellent cook and an avid pianist. She enjoyed spending her free time sewing for her family and friends.
Betty and Herb had four children, Sherrlyn Jean, Judith Kay, Donna Rae and Robert Alex.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Donna Bornhoft and husband Rich of Arvada; son, Robert Karg and Elissa of Atwood; son-in-law, Mark Clayton of Holyoke; and son-in-law, Darrell Lewis of Alamosa; grandchildren, Angie and Aaron Powell of Holyoke, April, Nicole, and Heather Bornhoft of Denver, Justin and Ashley Clayton of Holyoke and Veronica and Zach Karg of Atwood; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Riley Powell of Holyoke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert in 1999; daughter, Judith in 1988; daughter, Sherrlyn in 1993; and granddaughter, Krista in 1995.
Memorials can be made to Eben-Ezer Lutheran Living Center or Hospice of the Plains.
