IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Arlone
Makinster
March 28, 1935 – September 20, 2024
There is no place like home, except grandmas, where love and forgiveness reside. Grandmas are a treasure and ours was Barbara (Janice) Arlone Makinster who passed away Friday, September 20, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 27 at Halouska Family Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Janice was born March 28, 1935, in Chicago, IL to Lawrence and Chloe Ethel (Jackson) Rhue, but moved to Sterling, CO a short time later. She attended area schools and lived in the area most of her life. Janice married Les Makinster March 22, 1951, in Salinas, CA where Les was stationed in the United States Marine Corps. Janice was mother to four children, Gene, Sherrie, Tammie, and Raymond. She spent her life serving and caring for those she loved.
Janice was a member of the VFW, Royal Neighbors, and Theatre Row. She and her husband enjoyed music, gardening, dancing, and spending time with loved ones. She also enjoyed watching old sitcoms, going to the ocean and mountains and playing the game Aggravation. Janice saw family as a gift and let them know how treasured they were daily. Janice had a generous heart that extended to everyone, even the various animals her grandchildren dragged into the house. Her house was always filled with family, friends, and hearty meals. She gave an encouraging word to all who needed it and loved unconditionally. Janice taught us all the power of love and lived by the belief that it is better to give than receive. Although she has left this world, she will live on in all the lives she touched. She gave us love but now watches us from above.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Les, son Eugene Makinster, grandson Shaun Makinster and her brother Hal.
Janice is survived by her children, Sherrie Makinster of Sterling, CO; Tammie Makinster of Kimball, NE.; and Raymond Makinster of Greeley, CO grandchildren, Rocky Makinster of Sterling, Annette Perry of Cheyenne, Amber Makinster of Sterling, Dawn-Rae Makinster of Kimball, Gilbert Makinster of Kimball, Cory Makinster of Sterling and April Makinster of Sterling, and 10 great-grandchildren.
