Arthur "Art" Bell, 77, of Sterling, died Nov. 22, 2009, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, with Vigil Service and Rosary at 7 p.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, with military rites.
Mr. Bell was born May 17, 1932, to John L. and Helen (Studt) Bell in Iliff.
He was a Private First Class serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from 1952 until his discharge in 1954.
He farmed in the Iliff area.
On April 20, 1956, he married Peggy F. Lawson in Sterling.
Mr. Bell was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336 and the VFW Post No. 3541.
He enjoyed playing cards and making yard ornaments. You always knew he was around by his laugh.
Mr. Bell is survived by his wife, Peggy F. Bell of Sterling; daughter, Sandra K. Spahn and husband Pete of Sterling; son, John G. Bell and wife Loretta of Sterling; sister, Elverna Eldridge and husband Chuck of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
