Obituary

A. (Anna) Naomi Kennedy – born June 21, 1918 to Clarence Pearl and Ellen Sofia Kennedy at the family home and died March 3, 2016, Sterling, CO.

Naomi grew up with her family on their farm 2 miles north of Dailey, CO. After graduating from High School, she worked in local homes, cleaning and cooking. Her Aunt Hattie Molander, who lived in Ault, CO, loaned her money to go to the Presbyterian School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. During WW2 she was employed in San Francisco and Seattle hospitals before moving back to Colorado. Naomi joined the Northeast Colorado Health Department in Sterling, and with Dr. Lynwood Hopple and others, helped establish the Mental Health Clinic there. She graduated from Columbia University with a Master's degree and was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Public Health Service, serving in regional offices in San Francisco, CA, Philadelphia, PA, Charlottesville, NC, and Denver, CO.

After her retirement from Public Health she volunteered at the Colorado Museum of Natural History in Denver, CO as well as visited many different countries and cultures. In 1990 she relocated to Sterling and continued her volunteer services at the Tourist Center. Naomi truly enjoyed interacting with people, and dedicated much of her time to all of her family whom she treasured and who treasured her. She will be forever remembered and greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Naomi is survived by sisters Fern Scheel of Windsor, CO and Selma Heath of Sterling, CO, sister-in-law Lucille Kennedy, Sterling, CO, nieces and nephews Dennis and Rita Scheel, Karla and Brian Brown, Danette Dowler, Cheryl Curtis, Chuck Curtis, Renee and Gary Rundall, Vickie and Jim Manderfield, Raenell Olson, Scot and Eileen Heath, Tim and Pat Kennedy, Tom and Alene Kennedy, Linnea and Neil Browne, Patricia Kennedy, and Rosemary and Jim Morefield.

A memorial service for Naomi will be held 10:00am, Tues., June 21, 2016 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Rev. Jodi Harless officiating. Service will conclude at the chapel.
