Anna Mae Hagemeier, 91 of Sterling passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 at Devonshire Acres. Visitation will be held from 10 am – 6 pm, Friday, January 4, 2019 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 4 - 6 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, January 5 at Faith United Methodist Church with Pastor Jodie Harless officiating. Interment will follow at the Haxtun Cemetery.
Anna Mae was born to Gus Linn Nealy and Myrtle Dera (Echols) Nealy near Haxtun, Colorado on August 31, 1927. Anna Mae Nealy graduated from Fleming High School in 1945. She taught one year of school in rural Colorado during WWII. She was united in marriage to Elno Otto Hagemeier on January 12, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Fleming, Colorado. To this union were born 6 children: Patricia, Lynn, Jody, Roger, Teresa, and Melissa. Anna Mae and Elno farmed south of Fleming, Colorado for 23 years and also lived in Denver, Haxtun, and Dailey, Colorado before settling in Sterling. For the past 40 years Anna Mae resided in Sterling, Colorado. She served for 23 years as the curator of the Overland Trail Museum in Sterling. She was a longtime active member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Sterling, the Red Raspberry Tarts chapter of the Red Hat Society, the Alpha Xi Masters Sorority, as well as the Logan County Historical Society. In 2015 she was honored by the Sterling Lions Club with the Logan County Pioneer Award. Anna Mae enjoyed fishing and camping, traveling, was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed time spent with family.
Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband Elno as well as her parents, brothers and sisters, and a great-grandaughter. She is survived by her 6 children: Patricia & Roger Morris of Greeley, Lynn & Annie Hagemeier of Eckley, Jody & Chuck Tansey of Denver, Roger & Vera Hagemeier of Sterling, Teresa & Todd McCarty of Fort Collins, Melissa & Tim Maharry of Alva, Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
