Angelina Valentina (Marin) DeSoto, 87 of Sterling passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Sterling, Colorado.
Angelina was born August 13, 1928 in Sterling, Colorado to John and Louise (Santomaso) Marin. The first of five children, Angelina attended the Sanders School for 1st through 3rd grade. When she started school, she only spoke Italian, and had to quickly learn English. She then attended Montrose County Schools for 4th through 12th grade. She finished her high school education and graduated from Iliff High School in 1945.
Angelina worked at Plains Motor Ford Garage after graduating. The DeSoto's were good customers of this business and it wasn't long before she married Albert Michael DeSoto on November 11, 1952 in Sterling. As a young mother of only daughter Sherri, Angelina spent many hours perfecting her baking. Her grandkids looked forward to her Christmas gift of boxes of perfectly shaped chocolate crinkles, gingersnaps, twists, peanut butter blossoms and more. She loved her garden and filled her cellar with jars of jellies and vegetables.
She was also a long time member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Albert and Angelina had many happy years spending time with their brothers, sisters and many friends; visiting and dancing at the Elks. Angelina loved Sherri, husband Joe and her grandchildren fiercely. She was always convinced that no matter the issue, it could never be their fault.
Albert introduced Angelina to the world of sports and she soon developed a passion for the Rockies and Broncos. Many times you could stop by her house to find the Rockies on the radio and the Broncos on the television.
Angelina is survived by her daughter Sherri and husband Joe of Sterling; sister Mary DeSoto (John), sister Betty Stumpff, brother Louie Marin (Eileen), brother Allen Marin (Janie) all of Sterling; sisters-in-law Gracie Accomasso of Sterling and Genevieve Desoto of Sterling; grandchildren Brian Yahn (Casey) and great-grandchildren Reece and Max of Fort Collins, Colorado, Brad Yahn (Jenny) and great-grandchildren Preston, Trevor and Caleb of Burlington, Colorado, and Laura Yahn of Loveland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert DeSoto in 1988, brother-in-law Roger Stumpff, and numerous in-laws of the DeSoto family.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 31, from 10am to 7pm with Vigil Service and Recitation of the Rosary at 7pm at Chaney-Reager Funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 1 at 10am at St. Anthony Catholic Church, interment Riverside Cemetery.
