Allen was born on February 15th, 1937 in Sterling, Colorado to Ferdinand and Bertha (Fritzler) Luft. He attended Sterling High School and graduated in 1956. Allen served in the Army for two years.  Allen worked for Industrial Welding for ten years before starting his own small business, Luft Machine and Supply. He retired in 2011.

Allen married the love of his life, Ruth Herzog, on June 24, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sterling. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage raising three kids, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren that he loved very much.  Allen was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as congregation president as well as sang in Ruth's church choir.  Allen played competitive fast pitch softball for Baney Well Service and enjoyed golfing with friends and family. He rarely missed any of his kids and grandkids sporting events and was extremely proud of all their accomplishments. He loved his tri-weekly card game in Proctor with some of his dear friends. Allen enjoyed his mornings at the donut shop and never forgot to deliver two chocolate donuts to his sister Lillian. Some of his favorite pastimes were watching the Rockies, the Broncos, John Wayne, and westerns. If there wasn't anything good on TV, he could always find a book to fill his time.

He was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, brothers Robert (Shirley) Luft and Johnny Luft, father and mother-in-law Henry and Flora Herzog, and brothers-in-law Kent Hendricks, Gerald Mitchell, and Ray Herzog.

Allen is survived by his children Lee Ann (Larry) Bellender of Sterling, Traci (Paul) Schrade of Sterling, and Todd (Dana) Luft of Colorado Springs; siblings Lillian Hendricks, James (Ginger) Luft, Diane Mitchell, and sister-in-law Betty Herzog; eight grandchildren Michael Bellender, Jay (Jordan) Schrade, Matthew (Tiffany) Bellender, Carly (McKinley) Land, Michelle (J.J.)
