Albert Victor Wagner, 90, of Sterling, passed away on March 7, 2018. Visitation will be held from 2 -4 pm, Sunday, March 11 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, March 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor R. James Nash presiding. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church.
Albert was the son of George Edward Wagner and Mary Kathrine (Hartwig). Before graduating from Sterling High School, he was a golf caddie for .25/bag often bragging that he carried two bags. While a sophomore, he was hired to be a "window dresser" for Montgomery Wards. This led to a 52 year career with Wards, being invited to Chicago and recognized on his 50 th year.
Albert proudly served in WWII from 1945-46. He was stationed in the Philippines as a seaman first class picking up sea pilots. He then joined the Navy Reserve, the Colorado National Guard and later the Montana National Guard. He attended Sterling Community College and also earned his pilot's license.
In 1950, Albert married Doris Elaine Ramey after meeting her at Croft Drug Store. He returned to Wards after his naval service. His career took him to 5 different states where he held various management positions. After retiring from Wards he returned to Sterling.
Albert was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was an elder, an usher, led bible study and set up communion. Through the years, Albert was a member of The Elks, Mason 32 nd Degree, The Shriners, Eastern Star, Rotary, Kiwanis and the American Legion. He was also the oldest election judge to serve in Sterling.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents; siblings William, Art, Eddie, Esther, Minnie, Martha, Margie, Lil, and his twin Alma; and son Mark Alan Wagner.
Albert is survived by three children, Kathy Wagner and Rosemary Monsivais, James Wagner and wife, Sheri Wagner and Cindy (Wagner) and husband, Dr. Patrick Doherty; five grandchildren, Tricia (Wagner) and husband Jimmie Costa, Paul Wagner, Lauren Doherty, Courtney Doherty and Jonah Wagner; and three great grandchildren McKenzie, Kylie and Jaycie Costa.
