Albert "Al" A. Werner, 91, of Sterling, died July 6, 2012. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor James Nash officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Werner was born Sept. 22, 1920, to George J. and Elizabeth (Kautz) Werner in Sterling. The family moved to Chicago in 1922, moving back to Sterling in September of 1936. He attended St. Johns' Lutheran School and Toohey High School in Chicago.
On Jan. 4, 1962, he married Clara Brunkhardt. They farmed in the Sterling area until retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served as an elder for Trinity Lutheran Church; he also served as the president of the Trinity Lutheran School Board and president of the local chapter of Germans From Russia. Albert enjoyed reading and woodworking.
Mr. Werner is survived by his wife, Clara; three daughters, Sylvia Bauder and husband Charles "Jim" of Sterling, Cherylon Loveland of Wellington and Robin Croop and husband Randy of Steamboat Springs; four grandchildren, Jamie Bauder-Knox and husband Tracey, Jody Holland and husband Mark, Tyler Loveland and wife Jennifer, Kit Croop; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Werner; and sister, Mildred Dermer.
