Obituary

Adelaide Hargrove Cook, 95 of Sterling passed a quietly at Devonshire Acres on Sunday, October 18, 2020 A memorial service will be at a later date.

Adelaide was born to R.P. and MinnieLee (Hague) Hargrove in the same farmhouse her father had been born in the Spade Community, Mitchell County, Texas. She grew up in Howard County moving to Chalk, TX, later renamed Otis Chalk, during the early oil boom days. She went to grade school in Chalk. She graduated from Forsan Consolidated High School at the age of 15. She then attended John Tarleton College (now Tarleton State University) in Stephenville, TX. On Oct 1, 1942 she married Harold E. Cook, in Colorado City, TX. They lived in Oklahoma for 20 months until Harold went into the service. While he was in the Navy, Adelaide lived in the Texas Panhandle. After his discharge they lived in Oklahoma 4 ½ years when British American Oil Company transferred them to Sterling, CO.

Adelaide was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and flowers, cooking, playing bridge, doing various volunteer work, she delivered meals on wheels for 32 years. She was an active member in Christ U.M.C. and United Methodist Women, serving on many offices and committees in the church. She belonged to G.N.I. Club which she joined when living in Graylin community, Jr. Reviewers, Eastern Star, and Monday Bridge Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Peggy Anderson, and two grandchildren.

Adelaide is survived by husband of 78 years Harold Cook, daughter Deborah (Bob) Elsloo, sons, Rod (Marcie) Cook, Duane (Julie) Cook, Randy (Cheryl) Cook, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
